드로잉을 어떻게 정의할 수 있을까요? 아마도 드로잉은 창작이라는 영역의 가장 핵심이지 않을까요? 뇌의 가장 바깥 부분은 우리 뇌의 다양한 기능을 연결한다고 합니다. 반대로 뇌의 가장 중심에서는 무의식을 다룬다고 하지요. 창작을 가능하게 하는 건, 인지의 영역일까요? 무지의 영역일까요? 머릿속으로 한 번도 떠올려 보지 않은 이미지가 연필을 잡았을 때 나와버리는 경우도 있을 것이고, 상세한 상상을 마치고 종이에 옮겨 내는 경우도 있을 것입니다. 아니면 두 경우가 동시에 작동하는 경우도 있고요.
드로잉은 작품을 위한 준비 과정의 하나로 여겨져 왔습니다. 하지만 최근에는 독립적인 작품으로 인정하는 경우가 많죠. 드로잉의 매력은 작품을 완성해야 한다는 목표나, 사회학적 원칙이나 물리적 법칙에서 벗어나 본인의 감각적인 선택으로만 이루어져도 된다고 믿는 영역에 놓여 있다는 데 있을 겁니다. <วาด? Whaat?> 전에서는 솜락 매니마이, 주디넛 송보라윗, 서찬석과 웁쓰양의 드로잉을 소개합니다. 작가들은 어린 시절의 기억을 본다는 탐구와 연결 짓거나 자신이 가지고 있는 신경증적 문제와 연결하기도 합니다. 사회와 정치를 말하기도 하고 가족이나 일상을 다루기도 합니다.
형태적인 차이도 있어요. 다 드로잉이라 부르지만, 누구는 연필로 누구는 붓으로 합니다. 또 누구는 펜으로 꼼꼼히 채우면서 재미를 느끼고 누구는 여백을 나누면서 결과를 즐깁니다. 결과적인 승낙이나 관계도 달라요. 작품이기도 하고 아니기도 합니다. 작품으로 가는 길에 있기도 하고, 옆에 동행하는 친구처럼 머물기도 합니다. 작가들의 감각적인 선택을 추적해 봅시다. 무엇보다 솔직하게 표현하고, 자신의 감각적인 특징과 선택을 엿볼 수 있도록 문을 열어 둔 세계로 여러분을 초대합니다.

Drawing has been regarded as one of the preparatory processes for artwork. is the main basis for creativity. And it is the first process we use to convey imagination, concepts, and feelings that arise within. Drawing is also a recording of the events that occurred at that moment thus giving a naïve, sudden sense. Drawing can be done in a variety of ways. Some people use pencils to draw. Some people use paintbrushes. While some people prefer to use a pen to create. All reflect the identity and personality of the artist. even the empty space itself is part of a drawing. Sometimes, drawings often considered as an incomplete sketch. But on the other hand, the imperfections make the drawing more attractive and interesting. The results that came out It Drawing can be compared to the same as a relationship, sometimes as you wish, sometimes not as expected Or sometimes it turns out to be like a companion with us.
The “วาด whaat?” Exhibition presents the artworks of Jutinut Songvoravit, Somrak Maneemai, Seo Chanseok and Woopsyang. The artists has a connection to collecting the memories that occur in everyday life, childhood, mental state and also reflect social and political, all conveyed through the technique of drawing lines without a limit. Above all, We invite you to open the door to a world where expression can be straightforward with the artist's emotionally-filled works and open to interpretation according to the experience of the visitors.
